Linde telescopic loader in municipal waste management at BAWN

The Nienburg/Weser Waste Management Company (BAWN) is a municipal waste disposal company responsible for reliable waste management throughout the district of Nienburg/Weser. Around 80 employees work every day to ensure that waste is collected, transported, recycled, and disposed of. This includes residual and organic waste, recyclables, and hazardous waste from private households, businesses, and public institutions. In addition to traditional waste collection, BAWN operates waste disposal and logistics sites, recycling centers, and service facilities, and provides consulting services on waste prevention and recycling management.

Material handling in municipal waste management

Material handling plays a central role in daily operations at the BAWN site. Containers have to be regularly loaded, different materials moved and a variety of work processes coordinated. Against this background, the decision was made in favor of a Linde telescopic loader, which meets the requirements for overview, safety and versatility in particular.

Operations manager Heiko Lehner explains the purchase decision: "The main reasons for the purchase were the elevating cab to improve visibility and safety, as well as the high level of multifunctionality, which enables it to be used for a wide range of tasks in daily operations.

Telescopic loader with elevating cab: increased safety and efficiency in municipal applications

A key safety and productivity factor of the Linde telescopic loader on the BAWN is the elevating cab. The elevated seating position gives the machine operator an optimum view of the material to be loaded, the container edges, the attachments used and the immediate working area. The elevating cab also significantly improves all-round visibility when maneuvering in the depot. Pedestrians, other vehicles or obstacles in the working area are detected at an early stage, minimizing the risk of collisions.

The elevated and comfortably mounted cab also contributes to smooth driving behavior when used on different surfaces on the company premises, for example in the area of transfer points or recycling yards. The high level of driving comfort also helps the driver to concentrate during longer operating times and recurring work cycles. In addition, the elevating cab enables an ergonomically favorable working position. The working area can be monitored without an awkward posture and without restricted visibility. This not only increases the efficiency of material handling, but also improves the health and safety of employees in the long term.

Versatile application options thanks to quick-change attachments in waste management

The rotating lifting fork attachment enables the containers to be tipped effortlessly and precisely.

A major advantage of the Linde telescopic loader in use at BAWN is its high level of multifunctionality, which is made possible by the use of different attachments is achieved. In daily operation, the machine is used to fill containers, among other things. The rotating lifting fork attachment offers particular flexibility here, enabling precise handling and emptying of loads and thus further increasing the efficiency of material handling. The telescopic loader regularly loads containers with a volume of 7 cubic meters and ensures even and efficient loading through precise movements. Different grabs, buckets or other handling tools can be changed quickly so that the material flow is maintained without long interruptions.

In addition, the Linde telescopic loader is also used at BAWN for work at height. The personnel basket can be used to safely carry out maintenance, inspection or cleaning work , for example on structures, containers or technical equipment on the company premises.

More height in the pile - more efficiency in operation

Compared to conventional wheel loaders, the Linde telescopic loader can achieve around 50 % more height in the pile. Especially in municipal waste management, where storage and handling areas are often limited, the greater height enables significantly better use of space. Recyclable materials and waste can be stored in a more space-saving manner, creating larger material buffers. This creates flexibility with fluctuating delivery quantities and reduces reloading processes and routes, as larger quantities of material can be moved in a single operation. Fewer shunting movements also mean higher productivity and less wear on the machine.

The Linde telescopic loader achieves around 50 % more height in the pile than a comparable wheel loader.

Higher load density - up to 30% more fill level in the container

Thanks to its Z-kinematics the Linde telescopic laoder can effortlessly pick up compacted material. Thanks to the geometry of the boom together with the loading arm, the telescopic loader achieves up to 30 % higher loading density in the container. This optimized compaction has clear economic and ecological benefits: fewer transport trips are required for the same amount of material, which noticeably reduces fuel and logistics costs. At the same time, Co2 emissions are reduced and the available container capacities are utilized to the full.

Why a telescopic loader is the ideal solution for municipal waste management:

Up to 50% more stacking height in the pile:The greater lifting height enables significantly better utilization of existing storage and handling areas, a decisive advantage at municipal depots with limited space.
Up to 30% higher filling level in the container:Compressing the material in the container increases the load density. This reduces transport journeys and cuts fuel and logistics costs.
Maximum overview and safety thanks to elevating cab:The elevated seating position significantly improves all-round visibility, minimizes collision risks and ensures precise, safe working in day-to-day handling operations.
High level of multifunctionality thanks to quick-change attachments:The flexible use of different attachments makes the machine versatile, from material handling and container filling to maintenance work with a personnel basket.
